House of Quilting was founded by Jean Adkins in 1981 and has been providing quilters with quality, made in the USA quilting accessories ever since. Jean and her husband, James, are based in Fayetteville, North Carolina. From 1982 through 2007, Jean and James were regular fixtures at quilt shows across the globe, presenting Jean's inventions - the Hand-Held Quilting Thimble, Finger Savers, and Adhesive Seam Gauge. In late 2007, Jean and James retired from the show circuit and transitioned their business to offer their products exclusively through www.HouseofQuilting.com.

Jean was featured in the 1996 edition of Who's Who in American Quilting. She is a member of the National Quilt Association and the American Quilter's Society.

A little more about the invention that started it all.....

Jean has been quilting all of her adult life. As a teenager, she was taught how to quilt by her mother, and has had a passion for quilting ever since. Over the years, she was finding it difficult to find other women to quilt with - some had small fingers that didn't fit a traditional thimble. Some had fingers to large. Add to the equation fingernails, and you'd never be able to quilt. With all of this in mind, Jean set out to create thimble that could be used by everyone, regardless of finger size, fingernails or limiting physical conditions. In 1983, the Hand-Held Quilting Thimble was born. The patent was awarded in 1985.
